Subscriptions
This is where you configure Nexus QR8 to search for content. Once this section has data in it then Nexus QR8 will start to gather articles for you from across the internet.
There are two types of subscription you can use:
Searches | The most obvious way you can enter a subscription here is by typing in a search term. This can be a single world or multiple word text entry but be very careful, computers are unforgiving and so the results you get will reflect what you type in. You can also use the # symbol here to search for the use of hashtags in articles if that is appropriate to you. |
Feeds | If you know the details of an RSS feed you can copy and paste it in to the window. If you don’t know the details of the RSS feed for a website then type in the website URL starting with “www.” (that’s how Nexus knows it needs to look for a website RSS feed) Nexus will try the various options it is aware of for a valid RSS feed and if it can find one will provide you with a list of the most recent articles it has found. |
You can tag any number of your subscribed feeds or searches as “favourites” by clicking on the yellow star next to the feed/search name. This is a toggle feature so you click on a solid star to unfavourite a search or feed. Favourite feeds or searches can be viewed in the Curation screen by selecting favourites from the drop down filter there.
Please note:
Once you add subscriptions there will be a brief delay while articles are gathered and processed before they are displayed for your review in the Curate screen.
Each membership plan has a limit on the number of subscriptions that a user can apply to their account. You can upgrade your membership if you want to increase the number available to you if you want to add more feeds or searches. You can find out more about our plans on the Pricing help page.
Getting Started with Subscriptions
Click on the Add Subscription button and either:
To add a feed: Copy and paste the link to a known RSS feed in to the text box and click “Add Feed”
To add a search term: Type the precise phrase you want to search for including any spaces and click “Add Feed” (e.g. “Pink pingpong balls”). Noting that capitilisation is irrelevant but we like to use an initial capital because it looks nicer)!
Repeat the above for each of the feeds or searches you want to add to your Nexus QR8 configuration. Do bear in mind that the more search terms you add the broader the range of Unique Relevance Scores that Nexus QR8 will be able to calculate and therefore the more likely it will be that your more relevant articles will be displayed higher up on the list of articles.
TOP TIP: Finding relevant content is clearly very important BUT if you use a strategy that finds only relevant content based on your search terms then you will miss content that may not be relevant but IS interesting. We therefore recommend that you identify a number of news feeds that you like and favourite them so you can also find and share interesting content as well as relevant content (that isn’t to say that any of the relevant content we find for you isn’t interesting - it is of course but you know what we mean)!
